Criminal Background Check

What is the purpose of a criminal background check?

Fingerprint-based criminal background checks are used to identify prior criminal convictions.

Background checks are used to support the university’s priority to create a safe and secure environment for on campus and in the work fields in which the students will be doing their studies.  It is intended to assist departments in the evaluation of whether a candidate is suitable for acceptance into the program.   The university desires to promote fair and consistent methods to obtain, analyze, apply, and retain information on final candidate background checks.

What is the cost of the service?

1) Northern Kentucky University fee is $20.00.
Payment of $20.00 must be paid by Money Order made payable to “Northern Kentucky University”.

2) Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) fee is $18.00.
Payment of $18.00 must be paid either by Money Order made payable to the “Treasury of the United States” or by credit card. 

Steps to Follow

1. No appointment necessary.  Hours of service are listed above.

2. Bring your operators license or picture identification with you at the time of service.

3. Bring both payments for the service.

4. The forms will need to be completed at time of service.  

Additional Information

The completed FBI form(s), payment & fingerprint card will be mailed to the FBI by the Northern Kentucky
University Police Department.
